This is the popular waltz from the ballet The Nutcracker, composed by Tchaikovsky. This piece is often heard during winter, specifically during Christmas time (as are many of the other pieces from the ballet). The melody is introduced softly by the horns, and other instruments add to that role as the piece develops.
Instrumentation is for orchestra, and includes: piccolo, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, trumpets, French horns, trombones, tubas, timpani, a triangle, a harp, first and second violins, violas, cellos, and basses.
